O. Ray Smith was born March 27, 1939 in Brinson, GA, the son of Henry Judson Smith and Bessie Cloud Smith. He married Juanita Shepard in 1959 and made his home in Brinson. He was a member of Bethany Baptist Church.

Two things Ray loved were fishing and his grandchildren. Some of his best stories were told about those trips and as the memories faded, the stories got better and the fish bigger. Ray Smith was a busy body who would talk with anyone. He never let a person leave his presence as a stranger. His table was open to anyone and he always enjoyed visiting. Some will remember Ray cooked breakfast every morning. No one really knows the depth of Ray’s impact because he chose to be a silent helper.

Survivors include his wife of almost 59 years, Juanita Shepard Smith; his children, Cindy Faircloth, Peggy Haire and her husband, Greg, and Rocky Smith, all of Bainbridge and Chad Smith and his wife, Chavonne, of Brinson; his sisters, Sara Moore, Ruby Barber, Nell Ingram, Betty Sue Yates and Frances Kelley; his grandchildren, Rachel, Brian, Jenny, Keith, Rebecca, Brandy, Christopher, Brad, Terri, Monica, Jasmine and Alexander; and his thirteen great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his son, Reliford Dale Smith; and his siblings, Junior Smith, Tommy Smith, Lillie Ruth Brunetti, Robert Smith, Annie Donalson and Pete Smith.
