Iris Brock was born October 2, 1917 in Grady County, GA, the daughter of James Wiley and Ella Mae Lodge Brock. She was a graduate of Whigham High School and a member of Black Jack Baptist Church. She was married to Hubert Harrell who proceeded her in death.

Known for her bright blue eyes and beautiful smile, “Miz” Harrell could charm her way into information. She had a quick wit often read in her poetry or articles in the Post Searchlight titled “Black Jack News”. Her most famous line was “A good time was had by all.” And for her, most any time was a good time. She spent her days peddling Avon products, gardening and collecting. “Miz” Harrell did not believe in junk; she thought everything was treasure or at least had potential. She had a lead foot (probably so she wouldn’t miss anything) and loved the Lord (probably because of the lead foot). A neighbor to all, she helped anyone in need. This centenarian found that whistling made folks smile a little more and enjoy the moment.

Survivors include her daughter, Nancy Davis and her husband, Steve; her sister, Velma Brock Waldorf of Tallahassee, FL; her grandchildren, Charles & Jennifer Brock, Amanda & Adam Rentz, Gena & Russell Kelley, Dawn & Bobby Hand, Nolan & Amy Harrell, Travis & Paige Harrell and Ester Harrell; her great-grandchildren, Connor, Jacee, Bailee, Riggs, Nicole, Seth, Edward, Cameron, Remington, Ashton, David, Logan, Michael, Elizabeth, Nikita, Dylan, Brody, Hunter, Michael and Tyler; and several great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Iris was preceded in death by her son, Nolan Harrell, Sr.; and her siblings, Wilma Glover and Ruel Brock.

The Harrell Family would like to extend special appreciation to Memorial Manor Staff for their kindness and compassion.
