Doris Brock Cumbie, 92, of Climax, GA, passed away Friday, November 3, 2017.
The graveside funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 6, 2017 at New Home Freewill Baptist Church No. 2 Cemetery with Rev. Ryan Zearing officiating. Her grandsons and great-grandsons will serve as active pallbearers.
The family will receive friends prior to the service, from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. on Monday, November 6, 2017, at New Home Freewill Baptist Church No. 2. Hattie Doris Brock was born June 20, 1925 in Climax, GA, the daughter of William Ralph Brock and Beulah Parks Brock. She attended Mt. Pleasant High School and worked for many years as a seamstress at Jack Winter and Georgia Industries for the Blind. She was married to J. E. Cumbie, who preceded her in death, and made her home in Climax. Doris was a member of New Home Freewill Baptist Church No. 2.
There is something to be said about a woman who can sew, manage a flower garden, cook without a recipe and fish. Doris was a master at all of these and would tell you quickly she didn’t mind cooking as long as she didn’t have to follow a recipe. She also enjoyed listening to gospel music and reading. Family and church were important to Doris and she spent her life serving those she loved faithfully.
Survivors include her children, Larry Cumbie and his wife, Marie, of Climax, Vonnie Cumbie Scott and her husband, Wayne, also of Climax, and Terry Cumbie and his wife, Linda, of Albany; her sister, Frances Walker of Atlanta, GA; her grandchildren, Joey, Shane, Jill, Chris, Jennifer and Selena; and her great-grandchildren, Gracie, Jacob, Max, Kaitlyn, Andrew, Carson, Jacquelyn, Annsley, Kendall, Jaysen, Aly and Owen. Doris was preceded in death by her husband, J. E. Cumbie; and her siblings, Hubert Brock, Mittie Ruth Brock Vance, Bradford Brock and Dorothy Gray.
