Edna Weems Powell

Edna Weems Powell, 89, of Bainbridge, GA, passed away Sunday, June 3, 2018.

The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, June 5, 2018 at Ivey Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jimmy Walden officiating. Interment will be at Brinson Cemetery with Wayne Chandler, Kevin Conners, Bonnell Forehand, Jesse Powell, Zach Powell and Lee Powell serving as active pallbearers.

Edna Earl Weems was born November 17, 1928 in Dale County, AL, the daughter of James S. and Alma Beverett Weems. She was married to Thomas Franklin Powell, Sr., who preceded her in death. Edna was a member of Harvest Assembly of God.

Stubborn, steadfast and bullheaded only begin to describe this very spirited woman. Edna was all about a good time especially at family gatherings. She would tell a joke in a quick minute and loved to laugh herself. She was quite resourceful, always finding a way to make things happen when no one else had a plan. Her friends and family describe her as “a pistol ball”.

Survivors include her children, Patricia Powell DeThomas and her husband, Art, of Tallahassee, FL, Jennifer Powell Chandler and her husband, Wayne, of Havana, FL, Rhonda Fran Powell Conners and her husband, Kevin, of Bainbridge, GA and Thomas Franklin “Dooly” Powell, Jr. and his wife, Susan, of Brinson, GA; her sister, Othell Day of Bainbridge, GA; her aunt, Mary Forehand of Havana, FL; her four grandchildren; and her ten great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents and her husband, Edna was preceded in death by her son, Michael Powell; and her siblings, Winston Weems, Jack Weems, Bobbie Nell Coates and Myrtice Preston.
