Barbara A. Pendley

Barbara Ann Pendley passed peacefully from this life the afternoon of November 30, 2018.  She was home and surrounded by her loving family.

Born on June 21, 1935 in Birmingham Alabama, Barbara loved the South, southern hospitality, sweet tea, fried chicken, Coca-Cola and the Georgia Bulldogs. Her easy smile and gregarious personality belied a more introspective side which served her well throughout her lifetime. Barbara raised her children in Florida — creating wonderful beach memories and instilling a love of the ocean in them and her grandchildren.

Barbara moved with her family to Roswell, Georgia where she happily resided for over 35 years. She shared a passion for tennis with her husband George Pendley.  Her stamina, dexterity, technical skill and bodacious lob were all a force to be reckoned with on the court. Barbara also enjoyed going to exercise classes and jogging with her daughter — with whom she completed a 5k at the age of 76.  She loved antiquing with her daughters and was known for her love of Christmas and her “year round” Christmas basement.

In addition to being fun, frivolous and funny, Barbara is remembered as a woman of deep devotion, integrity, faith and courage. She was always a very present help in times of need. And, she cared tenderly for her husband George throughout his illness. Barbara loved her wonderful neighbors,  her tennis teammates/friends and her church family at RUMC.  Her humor, courage, grace, love and integrity will forever be cherished by all who knew her.

Barbara is survived by her children: Diana Kirbo and her husband Charlie Kirbo of  Bainbridge, GA, Pamela Miserocchi of Tallahassee, FL, Sallie West of  Charleston, S.C. and Karin Pendley of  Decatur, GA; four grandchildren: Barret and Kate Kirbo, Amelia Kirbo, Luke and Kathryn West and Carson Koser; two great grandchildren: Carolina and Gabrielle West; a brother: Tom and Lee Ann Carr.  She was preceded in death by her husband George Pendley, her mother Inez Carr, her father Floyd Phillips and her brother Don Phillips.

A memorial service will be held at Reynolds Chapel at Bainbridge Methodist Church Chapel on Saturday December 8th at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Macon Georgia United Methodist Children’s Home or the Bainbridge Humane Society.
